Document Description
Project is limited to the repair of a failed restoration project below the dam in San Mateo Creek which has led to concerns of fish stranding in the stilling basin in uninhabitable conditions. A channel will be constructed through an existing riparian/emergent wetland restoration area below the base of the dam to permanently hydraulically connect and provide fish passage from the stilling basin at the base of the dam to a pool approx. 300 feet downstream. The channel will be excavated through existing riprap and the riparian wetland restoration area and will provide almost five feet of water during flows between 3 and 17 cubic feet per second. Other activities include installing two piezometers at the base of the dam, removing the existing riprap dissipation structure at the pool to install a new low flow discharge pipe, reconstructing the dissipation structure and planting the edges and banks of the creek with native vegetation. The CDFW is executing Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement No. 1600-2015-0444-R3 pursuant to section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code to the project Applicant, San Francisco Public Utilities Commission.
