Document Description
The Project involves five phases of site closure operations at the 5,200-acre UTC San Jose Facility. The property was historically used to design, manufacture, and test solid fuel rocket motors from 1959 until 2004. Closure operations include the removal of site infrastructure, including buildings, perchlorate remediation in soil and groundwater and installation and operation of a groundwater purification system. The Project as authorized in the ITP will result in temporary impacts to 12.7 acres of California tiger salamander (CTS) (Ambystoma californiense) upland refugia habitat. The Project is expected to result in incidental take of CTS which is designated threatened under CESA. The ITP referenced above as issued by CDFW authorizes incidental take of (Amendment) increases the temporary upland habitat impacts by 12 acres resulting in impacts to 24.7 acres of CTS refugia habitat. The Amendment requires corresponding increases to the required Habitat Management (HM) lands by 12 acres, for a total of 27 acres of upland refugia HM lands.
