This is a repair calling for replacement of the degraded sluice gate inside the Venice Sewage Pumping Plant - in place since the plant's construction in the late 1950s. The gate allows operators to control the flow of sewage through the plant. To replace it, sewage must be temporarily diverted around the plant using pumping equipment and an above-ground pipeline.
