Document Description
EMWD plans to construct the Perris II Brackish Groundwater Desalter in southwestern Riverside County within the service boundaries of EMWD. The proposed project was first approved by the EMWD Board of Directors on March 22, 2006. Subsequent to project approval, the proposed Perris II Brackish Groundwater Desalter design capacity has been increased from 3.0 MGD to 5 MGD. The Subsequent Environmental Assessment/Initial Study and MND has been prepared to ensure the increased design capacity will not have any adverse beyond those identified in the previous supporting documents.
The Perris II Desalter would provide up to 5 MGD of water pumped from up to seven new wells feeding into a reverse osmosis desalination plant. Pending the results of exploratory drilling, the wells may be located in the Perris North, Perris South, Lakeview, and Menifee groundwater management zones. This new desalter would meet the potable water demands for up to 11,000 homes in the disadvantaged community of Perris, CA and provide a drought resistant source of water supply to the surrounding community.
