Document Description
The proposed project is the Calaveras Dam Replacement Project, referred to as the "CDRP Variant," located in unincorporated areas of Alameda and Santa Clara Counties on lands owned by the City and County of San Francisco. The purpose of the project is to improve the seismic and water delivery reliability of Calaveras Reservoir and to restore its historical storage capacity. The project consists of the following: construction of a new dam to replace the existing Calaveras Dam at the north end of the existing Calaveras Reservoir; replacement or modification of related facilities such as the spillway, intake shaft and adits, outlet pipe, stream discharge valves, and instrumentation; construction of fishery enhancements at Calaveras Dam and at the Alameda Creek Diversion Dam (ACDD), including fish screens at both dams and a fish ladder at the ACDD; upgrade of an existing electrical distribution line to serve construction needs; long-term implementation of instream flow releases from both dams for fisheries and other aquatic resources; and long-term implementation of an Adaptive Management Implementation Plan for central CA coast steelhead. Project construction will include use of disposal and borrow areas north and south of Calaveras Reservoir and will require approximately 4 years, beginning in 2011 with targeted completion in 2015.
