Document Description
The Calaveras Dam Replacement Project (CDRP) includes replacement of the existing Calaveras Dam with a new earth and rock-fill dam that will accommodate a public water supply reservoir of the same size as the original 1920 plan (96,850-acre feet) in order to meet Division Safety of Dams (DSOD) requirements). When the replacement dam is completed in approximately 4 years, DSOD restrictions will be lifted and the original reservoir pool restored to the normal maximum water surface elevation of 756 feet. The CDRP includes a new dam and spillway, support buildings, haul roads, road improvements, staging, stockpile, borrow and disposal areas, and power line upgrades. Major Amendment 2 provides for extensions of terms of the ITP from December 31, 2016, to December 31, 2018, and modifications of the ITP to address the additional excavation and material disposal required due to a slope instability hazard. Modification includes 5 new disposal sites for placement of additional excavated materials, additional temporary roads, changes in duration and scheduling of construction, additional, take of Covered Species, and modifications to the current mitigation requirements.
