Document Description
The Operator proposes to construct two multi-use bicycle and pedestrian bridges within riparian zones. The first bridge will be a 340-foot stress ribbon bridge that spans Hagemann Gulch (Hagemann Creek is located with the gulch) from the northeast to the southwest. Bridge abutments constructed of 36-foot-wide by 50-foot-long by 5-foot deep concrete pads will be located at either side of the gulch 10 feet above top of bank and anchored with ground anchors. Cable ribbons will be strung across the Hagemann Gulch and anchored to the abutments. Precast concrete deck panels will be placed on the cable ribbons and a cast-in-place concrete overlay will be installed over the deck panels. Except for construction of the abutments, there will be no impacts to riparian or upland vegetation adjacent to Hagemann Gulch as all bridge sections will be placed from one side of the bridge. The second bridge will be constructed over Arana Gulch Creek. Mechanically stabilized earthen walls will be approximately 120 feet in length and range in height from 7 inches to 6 feet, and shall be used as retaining walls for both approaches. The bridges will be approximately 10 feet wide by 70 feet long, and constructed of stringers with concrete decking overlay in a manner that will pass 100-year storm flow events. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) are executing a Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement Number 1600-2013-0051-3 pursuant to Section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code to the project applicant, Mauro Garcia/City of Santa Cruz Department of Parks and Recreation.
