Document Description
The proposed project consists of a Class I and III bicycle/pedestrian path in north Monterey County, which is funded by Federal Highway Administration. Caltrans and also by Local agencies. As a Class I path, it will be separated from the roadway, and continue north on the east side of Castroville Boulevard to Del Monte Farms Road. At Del Monte Farms Road, the path becomes a Class III path, consisting of signage along existing roadways. Via Del Monte Farms Road, the path will continue north on Ormart Road to its intersection with Castroville Boulevard, and then continue north along Elkhorn Road from Castroville Boulevard to the Elkhorn Slough Visitor Center. The southernmost terminus of the bike path is approximately 650 feet north of the intersection of Castroville Boulevard and Highway 156. However, the picycle/pedestrian path will ultimatley connect into Castroville Boulevard, but the connection of the path is uncertain at this point due to funding and right of ways. Monterey County Public Works has indicated that the bicycle path may eventually cross the railroad tracks and connect to the new replacement bridge at Highway 156, however, the exact loaction and associated impacts of the connection are speculative and are not addressed in this environmental document.
