Present Land Use
The project would occur at an existing State beach facility. The Dockweiler State Beach General Plan identifies Allowable Use Intensity Zones for the entire beach. These zones consist of Zone I (Low), comprising areas of sensitive natural values such as beach bluffs, and wildlife habitats; Zone II (Moderate), which includes areas of coastal strand capable of withstanding heavy use, but subject to occasional ocean wave attack; and Zone III (High), which includes existing facilities and higher intensity recreational and operational facilities.
Document Description
The beach refurbishment project would involve the following primary activities: (1) reconstruction of the main entrance booth, four restrooms, the outdoor courtyard of the lifeguard compound, and entry lanes and roadways; (2) renovation of one restroom, a concession stand building, the interior of the lifeguard compound building, the maintenance facility, recreational areas and main site utilities; (3) construction of two new 2,500-square-foot lifeguard substations; (4) replacement of the access road pavement and two parking lot surfaces; and (5) extension of utility services in the RV lot. The project would be completed in approximately 11 months.
