The project would occur at an existing State beach facility. The Dockweiler State Beach General Plan identifies Allowable Use Intensity Zones for the entire beach. These zones consist of Zone I (Low), comprising areas of sensitive natural values such as beach bluffs, and wildlife habitats; Zone II (Moderate), which includes areas of coastal strand capable of withstanding heavy use, but subject to occasional ocean wave attack; and Zone III (High), which includes existing facilities and higher intensity recreational and operational facilities.
Document Description
The beach refurbishment project would involve the following primary activities: (1) reconstruction of the main entrance booth; four restrooms, the outdoor courtyard of the lifeguard compound, and entry lanes and roadways; (2) renovation of one restroom, a concession stand building, the interior of the lifeguard compound building, the maintenance facility, recreational areas and main site utilities; (3) construction of two new 2,500-square-foot lifeguard substations; (4) replacement of the access road pavement and two parking lot surfaces; and (5) extension of utility services in the RV lot. The project would be completed in approximately 11 months.
