Document Description
The PVWMA proposes to divert water from Harkins and Watsonville Sloughs tributary to Pajaro River thence Pacific Ocean. During the winter, Harkins and Watsonville Sloughs regulate the runoff from a 9,200 acre watershed tributary to the Pajaro River. The resulting high water levels in the sloughs flood local roads, threaten railroad tracks, and prevent drainage of agricultural lands. Santa Cruz County historically has mitigated the flooding by pumping the waters to the Pajaro River through other channels. PVWMA seeks a right to divert a maximum of 2,000 afa of this water for conjunctive use purposes. The water will be diverted at a maximum rate of 30 cfs. The water will either be applied to direct use on agricultural lands, used in spreading basins or at injection wells for groundwater recharge. Water treatment before use will consist of sedimentation and flocculation, with additional filtration if injection wells are used.
