County Road R over Glenn-Colusa Canal Bridge Replacement Project

Description

The proposed project would replace the existing, functionally obsolete and structurally deficient, bridge on a new alignment. The proposed bridge will be a 4-span, precast, prestressed voided slab bridge with a composite deck. It will accommodate 2 travel lanes with 4-ft shoulders. The superstructure will be supported on driven steel shell piles and spreadfooting abutments. The County plans to realign the roadway approaches slightly west of the current bridge on the south side and slightly to the east of the current bridge on the north side. Approximately 800 feet of County Road R will be reconstructed: 400 feet to the south and 400 feet to the north of the new bridge. County Road R at the project site will be closed during construction. This will result in an approximate 5-mile detour, but will greatly decrease overall impacts, reduce the right of way need, and will decrease the total construction time. Access to adjacent agricultural fields will remain open during the harvest season. Closing the road will also limit environmental impacts due to the ability to limit construction staging to the existing roadway area.
