Hood Abandoned Pipes and Conduit Removal Project

Description

DWR is proposing to conduct the Hood Abandoned Pipes and Conduit Removal Project (Proposed Project) to remove remnants of an abandoned fish screen testing facility located on the Sacramento River in Hood, California. The Proposed Project includes removal of above- and below- ground remnant facility features, and excavation of remnant pipes and septic facilities within the levee crown, levee crest and Sacramento River. Upon removal, excavated features will be filled and compacted, and the waterside levee will be recontoured and armored with rock-slope protection. This proposed removal will restore the levee to its original contour and grade prior to the installation of the facility and reduce the risk of catastrophic flooding for the people and property in the California Central Valley. The Proposed Project will also comply with the California Water Code, Division 5, Part 4, Title 23 of the California Code of Regulations Section 124. The Proposed Project consists of full removal of the remaining portions of the fish screen testing facility. This Proposed Project will take approximately three months to construct and is scheduled to occur in the late summer to mid-fall of 2022. Note: Appendix C “Tribal Consultation” and the Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction Plan Consistency Determination Form part of Appendix D “Air Quality and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Analyses” are not included within the Draft IS and Proposed MND document.
