Title
Temporary Sodium Hypochlorite Disinfection System at the Valley Pumping Plant
Description
Due to the chlorine shortage affecting the West Coast and the recent force majeure letter submitted to us by our chlorine vendor, Burbank Water and Power installed a temporary disinfection system which gives us the flexibility to use sodium hypochlorite as a disinfectant in the event of a chlorine gas shortage. The installation of this system involved minimal piping modifications within the existing footprint of the chlorine feed building, as well as the installation of an above ground 2,000 gallon tank to hold the liquid chlorine solution immediately outside of the chlorine feed room. The use of sodium hypochlorite for disinfection will not result in any changes to our CT rates or expected residual. Additionally, our ability to monitor chlorine levels (including alarms/notifications) has not changed.
