Title
Pioneer Trail/ U.S. Highway 50 Intersection Safety Improvement Project
Description
The El Dorado County, Department of Transportation (County) proposes to implement the Pioneer Trail/ U.S. Highway 50 Intersection Safety Improvement Project (Project) in South Lake Tahoe, California in the community of Meyers. The Project is identified in the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency’s (TRPA) Environmental Improvement Program as a phase of project number 03.02.01.0026. The objectives of the proposed Project are to remove the existing traffic signals at the Pioneer Trail/ U.S. Highway 50 intersection and replace the intersection with a three-leg modern roundabout with standard roundabout geometric features such as shared-use paths, crosswalks, splitter islands, truck apron with central island, and landscape buffer between the circulatory roadway and shared-use path. The proposed Project would also construct permanent site drainage improvements to protect water quality, such as sediment traps and an infiltration basin. In accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act (Public Resources Code Section 2100 et seq.) Guidelines (Title 14 Code of Regulations Section 1500 et seq.), a Draft IS for the proposed Project was prepared. The document identifies and evaluates the potential environmental impacts of the proposed Project. As a result of the Draft IS, the County proposes to prepare a MND for the proposed Project.
