Title
Biomass Transport and Utilization Project
Description
The California Tahoe Conservancy would fund the processing and transport of up to 17,500 tons of biomass generated from three forest fuels treatment projects within the Lake Tahoe Basin. Biomass in the form of slash (i.e., non-merchantable woody debris such as small diameter trees, salvage materials, and treetops) generated by the fuel treatment activities is proposed to be chipped, truck-loaded, and hauled from forest fuels treatment sites to receiving facilities throughout the region, which primarily include bioenergy generation facilities. The proposed project also includes the potential transport of biomass in the form of firewood for use as home heating fuel for the Washoe Tribe, and transport to the Ampine wood products facility in Sutter, California for the creation of pulp for use in the manufacture of wood products.
