Project Info
- Title
- Putah-Cache Arundo Eradication Project
- Description
- Giant reed, or Arundo (Arundo donax) chokes out waterways, uses three times as much water as other riparian vegetation, can lead to flooding and wildfire, and provides no habitat value for wildlife. The Yolo County RCD will work to control 256 acres of arundo and about 200 salt cedar (Tamarix parviflora) in the Putah-Cache Creek watershed, which includes the westside tributaries of the Union School Slough, Willow Slough and Dry Creek. It also includes Pleasants Creek in Solano County. Control on non-natives will use EPA wetland approved herbicides and physical control/reduction methods. Heavy equipment (mowers) will not be used in creek areas, except for Capay Valley.
