Title
Primary Sedimentation Tanks Rehabilitation and Equipment Room Electrical Upgrade Project, Palo Alto Regional Water Quality Control Plant
Description
The proposed project includes rehabilitation of an existing wastewater treatment process unit, primary sedimentation tanks (PSTs) and ancillary systems, at the Palo Alto RWQC Plant. The PSTs include 4, 46-year old concrete tanks (each measuring 220 ft long x 41 ft wide x 14 ft deep) equipped with mechanical and electrical equipment for wastewater flow control and sludge and scum removal. The project includes structural repair of the tank interior walls and ceilings; application of a corrosion resistance coating onto the tank interior surfaces; sludge collection and conveyance system upgrades; and process control instruments and electrical distribution equipment upgrades. To comply with current building and electrical codes and meet federal flood protection elevation requirements, the aging electrical cabinets will be replaced and relocated to an enclosed and elevated pre-engineered structure. An improved area adjacent/southwest of the PST sludge pump room measuring up to 15 ft x 50 ft will be repurposed to house the aforementioned new pre-engineered electrical enclosure. The addition of a new electrical enclosure to the existing PSTs structure will not result in an increase of more than 50% of the floor area of the enclosure before the addition, and would be less than 2,500 sf. Rehabilitating the aforementioned primary treatment unit is necessary to support the RWQC Plant's operation, protecting the water quality in the San Francisco Bay.
