Title
Walters Junior High School Improvements Project
Description
The proposed project that is the subject of the EIR includes two components: 1) construction of three buildings to provide 22 new classrooms to house an expanded student enrollment; and 2) expansion of the students. After completion of the proposed project, the district projects the total enrollment to be 1,461 students. Two new two-story buildings and one new one-story building would be constructed on the south-eastern part of campus and would take the place of an existing baseball field. The new classroom buildings are pre-approved by the Division of the State Architect as a site-adaptable design. The new classroom buildings would be oriented to maximize open space for outdoor learning and would take advantage of natural daylighting, while reducing unwanted heat gain. The proposed project includes an expansion by approx 10,000 to 15,000 sf of an existing parking area to allow for construction of approx 27 new parking spaces for staff and school events. The proposed project also includes a redesign of all parking and loading/unloading areas resulting in a total of 31 new parking spaces and an expanded loading/unloading area.
