- Title
- Airport Perimeter Dike FEMA and Seismic Improvement Project
- Description
- The Airport Perimeter Dike FEMA and Seismic Improvement Project is being completed over two phases at the Oakland International Airport (OAK). Phase 1 was completed in 2021 and included the construction of flood protection measures to meet the standards required by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Phase 2 will construct the improvements necessary to protect the dike from catastrophic damage during a major earthquake and includes new project elements requiring additional analysis and development of the Supplemental Initial Study / Mitigated Negative Declaration (IS/MND) to the original 2015 IS/MND and 2017/2018 addenda. The primary objective of Phase 2 of the APD Project is to maintain the flood protection of the APD system following a major earthquake in the San Francisco Bay Area. Seismic improvements will consist of Cement Deep Soil Mixing (CDSM) and will occur within a 0.75-mile stretch at the western end of the existing 4.5-mile Airport Perimeter Dike. The Project also proposes to place approximately 37,000 CY of material generated from the seismic improvement process across 10 acres at a closed landfill (North Port of Oakland Refuse Disposal Site), a Port of Oakland owned property located adjacent to the Oakland International Airport.
