Ocean Water Desalination Project

Description

Note: Extended Review West Basin Municipal Water District is investigating the feasibility of an ocean water desalination facility at two potential sites within the existing El Segundo Generating Stations. The potential desalination facility would be able to produce 20 MG a day of drinking water and a potential expansion of treating up to 60 MGD of drinking water. The local project would provide a reliable, local water supply to meet drinking water demands by offsetting imported water, while increasing drought resiliency and reducing dependency on imported water supplies. The project would include construction and operation of the desalination facility as well as ocean water intake and concentrate discharge infrastructure and product water conveyance system. Appurtenant facilities, including pump station, valves, and meters would also be constructed and operated as a part of the project.
