Bear Gulch Station 13 Improvement Project

Description

The project is part of the overall upgrade to California Water Service Company (Cal Water) water supply pumps serving the southern portion of Bear Gulch system in Portolla Valley. This project entails installation of two miles of a new pipeline in the Portola Road right of way and combining booster pumps into a single facility. The project covered under the lake and streambed alteration agreement no. 1600-2015-0085-R3 CDFW is executing pursuant to section 1602 of the fish and game code, is limited to the installation of the new pipeline under the Sausal Creek box culvert crossing near 828 Portola Road. Approximately 50 lf of steel bore casing, up to 32 in in diameter, will be installed approximately two ft of vertical clearance from the bottom of the existing culvert. The water pipeline to be installed inside the bore casing is a 22 in diameter coated and lined cement mortar steel pipe. The pipeline will be installed utilizing dry jack and bore method of drilling. A bore pit approximately 40 ft long, 12 ft wide and 12 ft deep will be dug on the east side of the culvert approximately 25 ft from the culvert center line. The receiving pit, approximately 15 ft long, 8 ft wide and 12 ft deep, will be dug on the west side of the culvert approximately 25 ft from the culvert center line. The pit walls will be shored to provide adequate structural support for traffic and safety. The debris carried back to the bore pit will be removed with a skidsteer and hoisted out of the pit.
