La Palma Recharge Basin Project

Description

The project involves the construction and operation of a groundwater recharge basin. The project will add an estimated 51,000 acre feet per year of capacity for water recharge into the Orange County Groundwater Basin. The recharge basin will have an irregular shape design and a wetted portion of approximately 14 acres and average depth of 10-ft with 3:1 side slopes. The source of water to the recharge basin will be treated recycled water from the OCWD Groundwater Replenishment System. A monitoring well will be constructed on the project site to measure water depth and water quality. An inlet/outlet pipeline will be installed across the Carbon Canyon Diversion Channel; the trenching for its construction will be 40 ft wide by 73 ft across the channel.
