Title
Karuk Tribe's Orleans Broadband Project
Description
As part of a larger community development project, the Karuk Tribe proposes to install and operate wireless broadband antennas in the northwest corner of the above-named parcel, with the intent of providing wireless broadband service to the community of Orleans, CA. This larger project, funded by a grant from the USDA Rural Utilities Service, would connect the Karuk Panamnik Center (located in the same set of buildings with the Karuk Housing Authority near the Orleans Elementary School on Highway 96), with fiber optic cable to an existing fiber optic node in Humboldt County, about 3.5 miles north of the center of the community of Orleans along Ishi Pishi Road, a one-lane paved Humboldt County road that connects Orleans to Somes Bar in Siskiyou County on the north and west side of the Klamath River. That fiber optic connection would link with Siskiyou Telephone, which has agreed to provide bandwidth on their fiber optic network to the Project for internet purposes.
