- Description
- The Fresno General Plan updates and substantially revises the City of Fresno's current 2025 General Plan (adopted in November 2002) to guide development within the City and its Planning Area in compliance with Government Code, section 65300 and 65302 as well as Fresno Municipal Code, Chapter 12, Article 6. The major concepts of the Fresno General Plan include: Plan for an estimated population of 970,000 by the plan buildout; To the extent reasonably feasible retain population growth within the existing Sphere of Influence (SOI); Increase residential density and development intensity in strategically located areas, consistent with development guidelines to provide pleasing environments with multiple transportation options, including Bus Rapid Transit and enhanced bus service along key corridors; Revitalize existing neighborhoods, and the traditional downtown, and promote balanced growth that will support physical enhancement of the urban core communities and the downtown; Promote economic development strategies to provide improved employment opportunities. The Fresno General Plan guides development through the General Plan Horizon of 2035 and anticipated General Plan Buildout beyond 2050.
