Title: Disposable Checkout Bag Ordinance
Description: The intent of the proposed Bag Ordinance is to increase the use of reusable bags and decrease the use of single-use plastic and paper bags to reduce pollution in local creeks, the San Francisco Bay, and the marine environment, as well as to reduce plastic bag contributions to landfills. It is anticipated that by prohibiting single-use plastic checkout bags and requiring a store charge for each paper and reusable bag distributed by retailers, the proposed Bag Ordinance would promote a shift to the use of reusable bags by retail customers and reduce the number of single-use plastic and paper checkout bags within Palo Alto.
