Cypress Lawn Hillside Cemetery Expansion

Description

The project is a proposed 6.8 acre expansion of an existing cemetery to provide additional gravesites and formal gardens. It is currently a portion of the Cypress Golf Course, but has recently been purchased by Cypress Lawn Cemetery from Cypress Abbey Company. An asphalt-paved internal road, which starts at the terminus of Serramonte Boulevard, provides access for the existing cemetery's Hillside Campus and is proposed to continue as access into the proposed cemetery expansion. There would also be extensions and improvements to the existing storm drainage system as well as the removal and abandonment of some existing electrical, water, and storm water drainage systems. Electrical service will be extended into the proposed cemetery expansion for the operation of the irrigation system. The project does not include any buildings or structures that would be connected to the sanitary sewer; however, the project does include the extension of a sanitary sewer line, along with the internal roadway and other utilities, into the proposed expansion area. Underground waterproof concrete vaults, each large enough to accommodate a casket, will be installed for each burial plot. An existing asphalt path, which was part of the golf course improvements will be removed. Proposed site improvements include tree planting, lawn burials and formal estate gardens. The grading for the project includes 6,567 cubic yards of cut, and 19,509 cubic yards of fill which would require 14,893 cubic yards of fill imported to the site. The Project also includes the removal of 45 trees, 39 of which require a Town of Colma tree removal permit because of their size.
