Title
Empire Mine State Historic Park - Proposed Arsenic Relative Bioavailability Sampling Study
Description
The Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) has been awarded a Training, Research and Technical Assistance Grant by the United States Environmental Protection Agency Region IX (EPA) to conduct an Arsenic Relative Bioavailability Study (Study). The goal of the Study is to determine the range of arsenic bioavailability that may exist in contaminated soil at former abandoned mine lands (AML) and develop better methods to determine the human health effects caused by exposure to arsenic. DTSC's intention is to use the results from the Study to develop an assessment tool that would allow risk assessors to reliably predict the in-vivo relative risk based bioavailability of arsenic in soil in a scientifically sound, defensible and cost effective manner. To support the Study DTSC will collect soil samples from the Empire Mine State Historic Park (EMSHP), located in Grass Valley, Nevada County, California. DTSC has prepared a Field Sampling Plan, Quality Assurance Project Plan, and Site specific Health and Safety Plan to allow for the collection of these soil samples.
