Miller Family's Mad River Slough Dike Rehabilitation Wetlands Enhancement Project
Description
A Conditional Use Permit to rehabilitate a total of 4,020 feet of existing dikes along the south and north banks of the Mad River Slough by re-locating them or rebuilding them in place where appropriate. This action is necessary to continue agricultural use of hundreds of acres of surrounding pasture land, restore 2.5 acres of salt marsh habitat along Mad River Slough which is very scarce in the upper reaches of the slough, restore 4.4 acres of riparian habitat, and enhance wetland values on 12.3 acres of pasture/seasonal freshwater wetland. In 2007, the Miller's received public funding from U.S. Fish and Wildlife to enhance seasonal freshwater wetlands in this project.
