Cove Road Bridge Replacement at Hatchet Creek

Description

The existing 67-foot long by 11-foot wide Cove Road Bridge over Hatchet Creek will be replaced by a 130-foot long by 24-foot wide bridge. The number of through lanes wil not increase. The new bridge will be a single-span prestressed box-girder bridge on a new alignment approximaely 60 feet downstream of the existing bridge. No construction activities will take place within the active stream channel other than removal of the existing footings, which abut the existing low-flow channel. The new bridge footings will be constructed above the ordinary high water mark. Approximately 200 feet of new approach lanes will be constructed, requiring approximately 1.07 acres of new right-of-way acquisition. The existing unpaved road is approximately 16 feet wide with 2-foot shoulders. The existing bridge will remain in use until the new bridge is open to traffic, at which time the old bridge, approaches, and piers will be demolished and removed. Approximately 0.05 acres of existing roadway will be abandoned and restored.
