Remedial Action-Construction, Site WP-12, Beale Air Force Base, California

Description

Removal Action at Site 12, the Former Entomology Building, Building 440, at Beale AFB. This removal action is being conducted in compliance with the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), the National Oil and Hazardous Substances Pollution Contingency Plan (NCP), and Chapter 6.8, Division 20 of the California Health and Safety Code. Site 12 is located just east of G Street, between Warren Shingle Road and Gavin Mandery Drive in the central portion of Beale AFB. Site 12 consists of two concrete pads located east and southeast of the former Entomology Building 440 and an unpaved area east of the southeast corner of the building. A concrete pad just east of the southeast corner of Building 440 may have been used as a pesticide mixing and washing area. Rinse water and spills from the storing and mixing of pest control chemicals were the waste source release mechanisms at Site 12. Waste types include herbicides and pesticides. The proposed action for Site 12 is excavation and removal of soils exceeding proposed cleanup levels, transportation of the soils to a treatment facility to reduce the concentrations to meed the Resource Conservation and Recover Act (RCRA) Universal Treatment Standards for hazardous constituents as listed under 40 CFR, Chapter 1, Section 268.48, and disposal of impacted soils at a Class 1 landfill permitted for hazardous waste disposal.
