Title
San Juan Bautista Historic District and Site Plan and Design Review Ordinances and Design Guidelines
Description
The project consists of the adoption of a new Historic Resources Ordinance and Site Planning and Design Review Ordinance and Design Guidelines for the City. The Historic Resources Ordinance will replace Chapter 5-19 of the City's Municipal Code (Preservation of Historical and Cultural Monuments), which was last updated by Ordinance 94-1 on February 15, 1994. The proposed Historic Resources Ordinance implements General Plan Policies and Programs relating to preservation of cultural resources. The proposed Historic Resources Ordinance will require the seating of a five-member Historic Resources Committee that will act as an advisory body to the Planning Commission. Duties of the Historic Resources Committee include updating the Historic Resources Inventory, researching the potential to expand the Historic District, establishing an archive of records, and seeking state certification of the local register, as well as the City. In order for the City to qualify as Certified Local Government, the City must seat and maintain a separate Historic Resources Committee. Once certified, the City may apply for state grants to update the Historic Resources Inventory and improve and maintain its historic resources.
