Title
Gaviota Beach Road and Bridge Replacement Project
Description
The existing two-lane road descends from an at-grade intersection with Highway 101 along a southerly alignment that leads directly to the State Park entrance. North of the Park entrance, there is an intersection where Gaviota Beach Road extends up a hillside and continues in a westerly direction to Hollister Ranch. The proposed bridge would be located at the site of the existing bridge where the main creek channel is located in the floodplain. The bridge would generally match the existing bridge and roadway alignment. It would consist of a 256-foot long cast-in-place, pre-stressed concrete slab. The bridge would have two concrete abutments and two piers. The bridge abutments and piers would have a 30 to 48 degree skew, and the bridge would be slightly curved. The bridge deck would slope from north to south with a 2.5-foot vertical drop over the length of the bridge. The bridge deck would slope from north to south with a 2.5-foot vertical drop over the length of the bridge. The bridge deck would have a three percent pitch towards the east for drainage purposes. The bridge clearance above the creek bed at the end of construction would be about 11 feet.
