Title
Donner Summit Public Utility District Water Right Permit
Description
The Donner Summit Public Utility District (District) owns and operates a dam and reservoir which forms Lake Angela at an altitude of 7,193 feet (crest height) on the upper south fork of the Yuba River. The current dam, built in 1971, has a capacity of approximately 310 acre-feet (AF). The District claims pre-1914 rights on part of the reservoir's capacity. In 1994 the District applied for a water right permit for the remaining capacity of the reservoir and for additional direct diversion rights; this application was amened in 1999. Based on the requested amendment, the State Water Resources Control Board (Board) intends to issue a permit to the District for direct diversion of 1.54 cubic feet per second (cfs) from November 1st through June 30th of each water year for municipal purposes, an additional 1.54 cfs from November 1st to March 1st of each water year for snowmaking purposes, plus storage of 310 AF between November 1st and July 31st of each water year for municipal and snowmaking purposes. Total amount of water allowed to be diverted for all uses shall not exceed 664 AF per water year.
