USDA WHNRC Building

Description

The proposed USDA Western Human Nutrition Research Center (WHNRC) Project includes construction of a new research laboratory building on the Central Campus. The proposed building would be located on an approximately 2.4-acre site just east of West Health Sciences Drive, north of Parking Lot 53, and northwest of Tupper Hall in the Health Sciences District of the Central Campus. The USDA would lease the site from the University. The proposed project would include construction of a new 49,000 gross square feet (approximately 29,000 assignable square feet) two-to-three story high research laboratory building. Also included in the proposed project is: 1) construction of a new 25-space parking lot to serve the WHNRC building; 2) expansion of the north side of Parking Lot 53 to create 60 new parking spaces; 3) addition of approximately 100 new employees to the campus population; 4) connections to campus data communications, electrical, chilled water, stream natural gas, domestic water, sanitary sewer, utility water, and storm drainage systems; and 5) an amendment to the 1994 UC Davis Long Range Development Plan to change the land use designation for the proposed project site from Parking to High Density Academic and Administrative. The proposed project does not require the relocation of any existing infrastructure to accommodate the project.
