Cull Reservoir and Don Castro Reservoir Hydraulic Desilting Pilot Project, Castro Valley

Description

The proposes project is being undertaken as a pilot project to determine the feasibility of using a hydraulic dredge for the long term maintenance of the reservoirs. The proposed project consists of removing up to 48,000 cubic yards of material from the upstream end of both reservoirs (approximately 24,000 cubic yards from each) using a small hydraulic dredge. The material would be pumped to temporary sediment settling/drying areas on site and dried before transporting it to a permanent disposal site or for use as fill material. A more detailed description of the work follows. Material would be hauled to District-owned previously designated silt storage sites or to other construction sites which are subject to separate environmental review.
