Description
The project is the 12-mile removal and replacement of the westbound lane pavement. The outside shoulder will be widened by shifting the westbound center line 0.6 meter to the inside. The highway widening would impact approximately seven acres of habitat, primarily occurring in the highway median. The project will impact desert tortoise and Mohave ground squirrel, which are protected under the California Endangered Species Act, requiring issuance of a California Incidental Take Permit. The Dept of Fish and Game has issued Caltrans a California Endangered Species Act Section 2081 Incidental Take Permit. The Section 2081 Permit establishes conditions to protect wildlife resources and to restore habitat values that will be impacted during construction activities.
