- Description
- The proposed project involves the mining and milling activities at the Taft Production Company Minesite and Millsite. The product that is mined is opaline silica shale, which is processed and sold commercially as oil absorbent and cat litter products. The project will result in permanent impacts to 140 acres of San Joaquin kit fox habitat, portions of which are also habitat for San Joaquin antelope swuirrel and giant kangaroo rat. Project-related impacts are expected to result in the take of San Joaquin kit fox, San Joaquin antelope squirrely, and giant kangaroo rat, all species protected by CESA.
