Title
Sacramento River Deep Water Ship Channel
Description
Due to the current channel configuration, vessels laden with some cargos must "light-load" (travel less than fully loaded) in order to safely navigate the SRDWSC with sufficient hull clearance. Light-loaded increasing the cost of transportation due to reduced economies of scale. In addition, the existing widths of the SRDWSC can make navigating to the Port difficult, particularly in inclement weather. In order to improve economies of scale and overall navigation safety, the Port and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have proposed widening and deepening the SRDWSC. The Proposed Project, therefore, involves both deepening portions of the SRDWSC to a depth of -35 feet MLLW and selective widening from River Miles (RMs) 0.0 to 35.0, completing the construction that was suspended in 1990, and conducting maintenance dredging from RMs 35.0 to 43.4.
