Document Description
The Irrigation Lateral 123.45-1.3-2.2 Division Box and Pipeline Replacement (Project) will remove and replace the existing irrigation lateral division box and its associated piping. The Project is located near the intersection of Monroe Street and Avenue 59 (Latitude: 33.620098, Longitude: -116.224584) in La Quinta, CA. The existing irrigation lateral division box 2.2 will be replaced with a 29’ x 22’ x 27’ concrete box. The project includes replacement of existing underground piping of approximately 2,600 linear feet of 24-inch Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), 60-inch RCP, and 14-inch Asbestos Concrete Pipe (ACP); all underground piping will be replaced 12-inch, 24-inch, and 30-inch PVC piping and new 60-inch RCP. The project will also include replacement of meter turnouts, street improvements, and demolition of existing baffle stands and pipeline located east of Monroe 0.5 street between Avenue 59 and Avenue 60. Replacing the concrete 2.2 Box and Pipeline with a new structure and PVC pipe will minimize canal water leakage. In addition, replacing the existing meters with new in-line meters at the delivery points will help the Coachella Valley Water District better manage the canal water deliveries. It will be required that the existing irrigation service be maintained to the existing customers during construction.
Excavation of the pipeline trenches for the site will be approximately 10 feet below ground surface on existing CVWD right-of-way on previously disturbed soils. Excavation is needed to allow placement of the new irrigation lateral division box and associated underground piping, no existing piping will be abandoned. The Project will experience a water shut down for a maximum of 3 days with downstream users being affected during the shutdowns. Pre-planning activities such as adding water to reservoirs will be conducted for affected users to ensure irrigation activities are not stalled. Construction activities are estimated to last around 6 months after breaking down. A Cultural Report conducted in the area found the project would have no adverse effects to historic properties. No wash crossings, sensitive habitat or trees will be impacted. The proposed project sites are located in rural residential areas, and is not within a conservation area of the Coachella Valley Multiple Species Habitat Conservation Plan (CVMSHCP).
