Document Description
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) proposes a Highway Maintenance project to replace two (2) irrigational drainage culverts at Postmile (PM) 8.53 on State Route (SR) 12 in San Joaquin County. The scope of work at the first culvert, which is considered an Over-crossing Flow (OFC), includes removing the existing 36” diameter Reinforced Concrete Pipe (RCP) and 48” diameter Corrugated Metal Pipe and replacing them with a single 48” diameter, 188’ long RCP, as well as replacing the existing concrete headwalls at the inlet/outlet. The second culvert, which is considered an Under-crossing Flow (UFC), includes removing the existing 30” diameter, 54’ long RCP culvert and installing a new 6’ x 3’ x 30’ pre-cast Concrete Box Culvert (CBC), as well installing new wingwalls with cable railing and concrete aprons at inlet/outlet A temporary dewatering plan will be required to ensure water does not enter the construction area. All project work at the south end of the OCF culvert is anticipated to occur within the Caltrans’ Right of Way (ROW). Project work on the north end of the OCF culvert will require a temporary construction easement. The purpose of this project is to improve culvert functionality and flow capacity. The project is needed to extend the service life of SR-12 and ensure motorist safety over these drainages.
