Document Description
The Lassen National Forest is proposing an emergency fuels reduction project within the California Department of Transportation’s (Caltrans) right-of-way along State Route 36 in Tehama County in the vicinity of post mile 84.83 near the community of Mineral. The activity is part of a larger emergency fuels reduction project (the Pyrite Timber Sale) which would remove trees and vegetation to create a fire break to protect the nearby community of Mineral. Flagging/traffic control would be required during logging operations. Caltrans will issue an encroachment permit (02-25-X-XX-0142) to allow the proposed activities to occur within the right-of-way along State Route 36.

Following the devastation of the Los Angeles firestorms and with the risk of wildfire increasing statewide, on March 1, 2025, the Governor issued a Proclamation of a State of Emergency which would fast-track critical projects protecting communities from wildfire. The project is statutorily exempt in accordance with Section 15269 (Emergency Projects). The project would have no significant effect on the environment.
