Document Description
he San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) proposes to implement the O'Farrell Street Road Diet Project. The project would reduce the existing eastbound two through lanes on O'Farrell Street between Masonic Avenue and St. Joseph's Avenue (project corridor) to one through lane and one left-turn only lane using pavement markings and striping. Additionally, daylighting would be implemented on O'Farrell Street and Anzavista Avenue. All other existing parking spaces and loading zones (i.e. school and emergency loading zones) would be retained. The purpose of the project is to reduce pedestrian crossing conflicts and improve visibility at crosswalks along the project corridor. Two shopping complexes, Raoul Wallen berg High School, Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, and residential buildings are located along the project corridor or in the immediate vicinity; these land uses are pedestrian generators. By reducing pedestrian crossing conflicts along the project corridor, the proposed project would improve pedestrian safety.
