Document Description
CAL FIRE, Northern Sonoma County Fire Protection District and North Sonoma Coast Fire Protection District propose vegetation management along both sides of Stewarts Point-Skaggs Springs Road between Highway 1 and Rockpile Road, within the public road right-of-way or on private lands up to 100 feet from the road edge to reduce wildfire intensity by minimizing ladder fuels and preventing ground-level fires from reaching tree canopies. All work will be done by hand using chainsaws, hand tools, and chippers. Understory vegetation (shrubs, brush, and small trees under six inches DBH at 4.5 feet) will be removed or thinned, and larger trees will be limbed so the lowest branches are at least six feet above the ground. Dead, dying, or hazardous trees may be removed or trimmed. Cut materials will be chipped, piled for burning, or left on site to decompose, with chip depth limited to one foot. Heavy equipment will remain on the road prism, and no ground-disturbing activities are proposed.
