Document Description
The Port of Long Beach proposes to perform soil and groundwater sampling in accordance with the Soil and Groundwater Investigation Work Plan for the proposed Rail Yard Expansion Project, located within Caltrans right-of-way along Interstate 710 at Post Mile (PM) 5.336, as well as to perform traffic control activities in the City of Long Beach, Los Angeles County. The proposed sampling work will be conducted using a hand auger with a 6-inch-long by 2-inch-diameter steel sampler, which contains a 6-inch-long by 2-inch-diameter stainless-steel sample sleeve. Each borehole will be abandoned by backfilling with hydrated bentonite chips or cement-bentonite grout within 6 inches of the ground surface. The remainder of the boring will be capped to match the surrounding grade. Excavation will have a maximum depth of 120- inches and a maximum width of two (2)-inches in diameter. Samples collected at depths exceeding 5 feet below the ground surface (bags) will utilize the direct push methodology, which involves hydraulically advancing a steel probe casing into the soil using a dual-tube sampling system. No public utilities will be relocated, and no new right-of-way will be acquired for the project.
