Document Description
Caltrans proposes emergency repair of pavement cracking and depression that was identified on February 20th, 2025, at post mile 19.68 on southbound Highway 1. The cause of the roadway settlement and caving is due to over-saturation of the embankment during the winter storms. The section of settled roadway will be repaired using compaction grouting. This method will require the installation of eighteen vertical pipe-piles spaced 5-feet apart on-center to a depth of 30 feet below the edge of the roadway. Then an additional eighteen pipe-piles will be placed 4 feet toward the mainline at an angle back underneath the mainline, 30 feet deep. All pipe-piles will be placed (wet set) using compaction grouting methods. The pavement will be ground and paved to finish. All work will remain within Caltrans right of way in the existing roadway prism.
