Document Description
This Exemption involves the reduction of hazardous fuels and fire protection of 1200 unimproved acres the City of Hesperia. This project will include simulation of fire suppression line construction using mechanized equipment and ignition of live vegetation. Project activities will consist of vegetation removal, elimination of hazardous dead or dying vegetation, and cutting line using mechanized equipment. These activities are being coordinated with the State of California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

Reasons for Exemption
Class 4 allows for minor public or private alterations in the condition of land, water, and/or vegetation which do not involve removal of healthy, mature, scenic trees except for forestry or agricultural purposes, further defined by not defined as wetland, seismic zones wildlife management areas. Assessment of the project location has determined it is not any of the restricted areas and will not result in significant effects on biological and archeological resources nor the environment. The scope of the project will improve fire protection safety zones ingress/egress routes and reduce the fuel load (including ladder fuels) around the local communities, establishing greater defensible space.
