The Wrights Lake recreation area is nestled in the Crystal Basin at the heart of the Eldorado National Forest (ENF) Pacific Ranger District (PRD), in El Dorado County, California. Wrights Lake has been a gateway for recreation and tourism into the Desolation Wilderness and National Forest System (NFS) lands surrounding nearby Lake Tahoe for decades. Recreation infrastructure at Wrights Lake presently includes two trailheads – Twin Lakes and Rockbound, two developed campgrounds, Wrights Lake Campground and Day Use Area (67 sites) and the Wrights Lake Equestrian Campground (15 sites) connected by paved Forest Service roads, one overflow parking area, and the Forest Service (FS) permitted recreation residences, all surrounding the iconic Wrights Lake.
