Document Description
The purpose of this project is to explore for a new well location within Sue-meg State Park to provide a reliable source of water for the park and allow park staff and visitors to stop relying on Penn Creek, during the busy peak season, for drinking water. A commercial well drilling company will conduct all drilling and well installation. Drilling will take place at up to two (2) sites. A pilot hole will be drilled at Well Site #1, and if a reliable source of water is found, this site will be developed and there will be no more drilling. If no reliable source of water is found at Site #1, then a pilot hole will be drilled at Well Site #2 to check for water and if a reliable water source is found, Site #2 will be developed. Work will use a drill rig with a 10-in. diameter well casing and the drilling will not exceed 350 ft. deep at either location. Crews will pour an approx. 6 ft. by 6 ft., and 6 in. thick concrete slab at the ground surface around the well casing and erect a small, approx. 9-ft. high, wooden structure on the slab to cover the well. If water is found at one of the two (2) proposed well sites, work will also include excavation of a 24 in. deep by 16 in. wide trench and installation of new utility lines. If well site #2 is developed, the section of utility trench that passes under Patrick’s Point Drive will be directionally bored by a contract. Spoils will be used for backfilling the new open trench after the utility lines have been installed. Best Management Practices (BMPs) will be used to control possible off-site movement of the drilling slurry.
