Reasons for Exemption
Class 1 applies to the Project because the Project entails repairing, maintaining, and rehabilitating existing Sunol Glen School facilities, The project would not increase the square footage of school buildings, nor would it expand school, or community uses or operations of the existing school facilities, Class 2 applies to the Project because the Project would result in the replacement and reconstruction of existing school structure and facilities. The replacement/reconstructed buildings would not result in an increase in physical space or school enrollment capacity and would have the same purpose as the structures being replaced/reconstructed. Class 4 applies to the Project because Project implementation would entail alterations to existing pavement and landscape areas on the school campus. The Project would not involve removal of healthy, mature, scenic trees except for forestry or agricultural purposes, including, but not limited to: (1) grading on land with a slope of less than 1 O percent, except that grading shall not be exempt in a waterway, in any wetland, in an officially designated (by federal, state, or local government action) scenic area, or in officially mapped areas of severe geologic hazard such as an Alquist-Priolo Earthquake Fault Zone or within an official Seismic Hazard Zone, as delineated by the State Geologist; and (2) minor trenching and backfilling where the surface is restored, Class 14 applies to the Project because the Project would modernize existing facilities at Sunol Glen School within existing school grounds, The Project would not increase the original student capacity by more than 25 percent or school size by 10 or more classrooms. Class 31 applies to the Project because the Project is consistent with the Secretary of Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation and Guidelines for Rehabilitating Historic Buildings. The Project meets the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation, Additionally, none of the exceptions listed in CEQA Guidelines Section 15300.2 apply to the Project.
